Liturgical Colors

Many denominations and churches use particular colors for vestments (including stoles), paraments, and other decorations used during worship. Although different traditions have variations in the colors they use for liturgical seasons and events, here is a list of the colors commonly used.

WHITE: Christmas (through Epiphany), Maundy Thursday, Easter, Trinity Sunday, All Saints Day (Nov. 1), Reign of Christ, Baptisms, weddings, funerals
RED: Palm/Passion Sunday, Pentecost, Reformation Day (October 31), ordinations
BLACK: Ash Wednesday, Good Friday
PURPLE: Lent, Advent
BLUE: Advent (some churches)
GREEN: all other Sundays (ordinary time)
